Job After Graduation

You are nearing the end of your university life and now you’re concern about getting a job after graduation. With the degree that you are holding, you feel that you’re confident in landing the job that you want. However, it is really important for you to take a step back and really think about your future. Here are a few reminders that could help find a job after :

Reminder No 1: Do not think about getting your dream job, just focus on what can get you there in the future. There are plenty of possible options of careers after graduation for you and it understandable that you would love to land the career that you have been craving for. However, it is also important that you should not be disappointed if you don’t get your dream job in the first go. Students have this fear in deciding what to pursue and they fear that it may be a right or wrong decision. Remember, a first job does not dictate your future career. Rather, this will give you plenty of insights, networks and skills that will serve you no matter where your career path flows.

Reminder No 2: Visit your Career Services. Majority of universities have career services that offer valuable resources regarding landing a job after graduation. You will be able to find internal job boards, a list of alumni you can contact, assessment tests, sample resumes and cover letters and more. It is very important for you to get the services of a career expert so that you could have a one-on-one session discussing your credentials, have a mock interview, connect you to an alumnus and prepare you for the real world.

Reminder No 3: Network your way to success. It is important for you to build a network of contacts and professional relationships before you graduate. Think of everyone as potential networking resource that could help you find possible careers after graduation.

Reminder No 4: Be open to all job opportunities. It is true that the more application you send the higher the response rate will be. Try sending out 20 to 30 job applications a week. You have to be confident, open your mind to all kinds of jobs, and remember that there is no right or wrong job after graduation. You shouldn’t limit yourself to one company, position, or even industry. Be flexible as possible and try to have fun while doing it.
