Before you start finding career options after graduation, you need to find out what visa you’ll need to satisfy the requirements for foreign workers. Here are two of the visa options you need to consider:

  • Tier 2 (General) visa: Recent graduates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, PhD, PGCE or PGDE obtained from a UK-registered institution are able to get this visa. If you have an offer of a skilled job from a licensed sponsor, you will be able to apply for this without having to leave the UK. You can stay within the UK for three years, with the possibility to extend your stay.
  • Tier 5 temporary worker visa: It is required for you to leave the UK and apply from overseas to get this kind of visa. The only exception is that you are required to take up postgraduate training relevant to your qualification. To be able to apply, you must have a job offer from a licensed sponsor and you need to pass a points-based assessment. Tier 5 work experiences and internship schemes are limited to 12 months, but other schemes covering research, fellowships, and training in the fields of science and medicine are limited to two years.
