Overview of Partner Visa
In this day and age, marriages between people of different nationalities are not uncommon. That is why the Australian Department of Home Affairs has launched visas that specifically cater to spouses or soon-to-be spouses of citizens. The partner visa Australia category is for people who are partners of eligible Australia / New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents. Do take note of these definitions: Spouses are people who are in a marriage that is legally valid in Australia. Meanwhile, you are a de facto partner if you are in a mutual commitment with another person and do not permanently live separately with that person. Meanwhile, a fiancé/fiancée is engaged to be married.
This category of visas grants either temporary or permanent residence to applicants. It is also open to both applicants who are onshore, or currently in Australia, and those who are outside the country. If you wish to join your partner in Australia, partner visas are for you. You must also be at least 18 years old and meet health and character requirements.
