New Pathway to PR: Subclass 192 Pacific Engagement Visa

Timor-Leste and participating Pacific Island nation nationals now have access to a new permanent resident visa scheme launched by the Australian government. The Pacific Engagement Visa’s (subclass 192) (PEV) goal is to strengthen ties between Australia and the Pacific region for people, culture, commerce, and education.

The new Subclass 192 intends to grant 3,000 permanent seats in Australia each year to nationals of participating Pacific Island countries, Timor-Leste, and their immediate family members, including partners and dependant children.

Properties of 192 Pacific Engagement Visa

Qualified Person

It is open to voters chosen at random from among the population of the participating Pacific Island nations and Timor-Leste.

Visa Fee

There will be a standard application fee of AUD 325 and an optional AUD 80 VAC extra applicant fee.

Place of Applicants While Applying

At the time of application, candidates may be inside or outside Australia. However, those who are in Australia must have a legitimate substantive visa.

Applications for Families

Family members must apply jointly. Once the initial visa holder has been granted, subsequent applications to satisfy secondary requirements are not allowed.

The Pacific Engagement Visa Ballot

  • There must be a formal offer for a full-time position in Australia for either the primary or secondary applicant (spouse or de facto partner).
  • The job offer complies with Australian citizen requirements on wages and working conditions.
  • The Australian Immigration authorities do not possess any unfavourable information about the employer.
  • The applicant can prove that they have enough money to sustain their family for the first year after arriving in Australia.

English Language Proficiency

Candidates who have proven to have good English language proficiency—possibly via employment or study in an English-speaking nation or through a prior English language exam passing—will not be required to retest.

Others can decide to meet the requirements for the English language test or sign up for the free Australian Migrant English Program (AMEP) upon arrival.
